Monitoring Levels & Review
Higher monitoring levels provide more comprehensive evidence for review but require additional device permissions, internet bandwidth and system resources.
No Recording
No screenshots, webcam images or recordings are collected during the exam.
Event logs are still available for review.
Suitable for organisations that require security controls without post-exam review
Recreation & Snapshots
Screen screenshots and webcam snapshots are captured approximately every 5-8 seconds.
Includes the Synap recreation replay.
Recreation = a reconstruction of the candidate's activity within Synap based on captured events and site activity. It does not show other sites or tabs.
Provides a complete audit trail without storing continuous video recordings.
Video & Audio Recording
Provides continuous recording throughout the assessment.
Screen and webcam monitoring can be configured independently.
Webcam recording always includes audio recording.
Supports screen-only, webcam-only or combined recording.
Supports Live Proctoring when at least one video recording source is enabled.
At least one type of video recording required for Live proctoring
Pricing is based on the selected Monitoring Level and is charged per started 4-hour assessment session. Where multiple monitoring methods are used, the assessment will be classified and billed according to the highest monitoring level enabled. For example, if webcam monitoring uses Video & Audio Recording and screen monitoring uses Recreation & Snapshots, the assessment will be charged at the Video & Audio Recording rate.
Configure Monitoring Level on Exams
From an exams proctoring page with any Install level selected any Monitoring level can be picked. Monitoring broken down further into the candidates screen vs webcam. Generally most proctored exams have the same level picked for screen and webcam but you can mix and match.
Video Monitoring Candidates Live
When any of the video options are used (either Webcam, Screen or both) the option to live proctor candidates in real time will become available. Live proctoring allows you and your team to watch candidates in the exam, send warnings to candidates, leave notes and flags for the reset of your team reviewing the exam once it has finished.

Live proctoring with SynopticCandidate Requirement Checks (Preflight)
Each of the different Monitoring levels have different requirements for candidates, device, internet connection, permissions, webcam / microphones. The candidates will be guided through what is required on the exam hall page by using the check requirements button. This button is active even before the exam is opened and can done multiple times (for example if the candidate changes their device.
Where full Video Recording & Audio is being used candidates will have to:
Grant webcam access
Grant screen sharing access
Test microphone
Additional requirements depend on the Install level, and all candidates will only be required to do what is configured for their specific exam. We'd recommend candidates do these checks in advance of their exam opening, they will have to do them to start the exam. However doing them early gives them time to resolve any hardware issues or access required for exam day.
There are no additional charges, candidates can do the requirement checks as many times as they need.
Depending on your and your candidates system configuration you may need to make sure Google Chrome has permissions granted to screen record. Some school or business devices have this disabled by default.

Reviewing Proctored Exams
From the attempt management table, select an attempt, use the actions button and select Proctor review to open the proctor review page.
The proctor review page shows you the monitoring selected as well as a detailed event log of interval checks, any warnings given during live proctoring and breaches (as configured per exam)
Comments can be left by adding a review by your team against specific events or points during the attempt.
Toggle between the duration and actual time by clicking the duration timer, the time shown is for your specific timezone not the candidates. Additional playback controls to watch at higher speeds, rewind / fast forward by a few seconds.

No Recording, Event Log Review
When the Monitoring level No recording is selected, there will be no images or videos to review. On the review side you still get the event log and can leave comments
