Synoptic AI Review

(Coming soon)

Synoptic AI Review brings automated detection to the candidate's webcam monitoring, giving reviewers an extra layer of insight without any additional setup for candidates. It's available as a webcam Monitoring level option, replacing standard Video & Audio Recording with an AI-assisted version — screen monitoring stays exactly as configured, so you can pair it with whichever screen option suits your exam.

Synoptic AI Review Session

The AI is trained to spot three things in the webcam feed:

  • Mobile phones detected

  • Person in frame / multiple people in frame

  • Open textbooks detected*

Open textbook detection is currently in beta while we assess its value to clients. There's no additional charge for using it, and it won't affect your AI Review billing either way.

Enabling AI Review

To enable it in the webcam monitoring level of any exam. AI Review runs after the attempt is completed, not live during it. Once a candidate submits their attempt, it takes the AI a few minutes to process the recording before the detection overlay is ready to view on the Proctor Review page.

AI review is only available on video for the webcam, it cannot be configured on screenshots

How AI Review works

We've designed AI Review to support your reviewers. System breaches (like exiting fullscreen, opening a new tab, or connecting a display) are backed by certainty — we know they happened — so they're recorded as breaches against your exam rules. AI detections work a little differently: they're a great pointer towards moments worth a closer look, so we show them to your reviewers as helpful context alongside the rest of the session evidence.

On the proctor review page, you'll be shown a filmstrip of candidate via webcam as well as the AI review timeline along with timestamped flags use any of these to jump to specific moments in a session and add comments where needed before approving or rejecting sessions.
