Creating an interview style quiz

How to create an interview style quiz using the video / audio response question type

By using the video / audio response question type and the media controls / restrictions, you can simulate an interview with your candidates. We also have clients who use this type of quiz for language testing to simulate a conversation.

After selecting a video / audio response question type, use the 'Upload video / audio stem' function to upload the question you are asking the candidate on the question tab.

To most closely simulate an actual interview, we can set up the question to play your question and ensure the user answers immediately with no chance to delete that initial response. If you repeat the following steps for multiple questions in the same quiz, the user will hear your question when opening a question, immediately after this finishes their recording will start automatically and they will be advanced to the next question without the option to pause / re-record

The below example uses a video stem which is 2 minutes 46 seconds long.

Answer tab settings

  1. Enable auto-recording so that the recording starts immediately after the audio / video stem has finished

  2. Set the recording delay to be the same length as the media so the auto-recording kicks in immediately after the audio / video stem has finished. So if the audio / video stem is 2 minutes 46 seconds, set the recording delay to 2 minutes 46 seconds

  3. Set a maximum recording time

  4. Auto advance immediately after audio recording has finished

  5. Do not allow responses to be deleted and re-recorded AND Do not allow responses to be paused and resumed

Configuration tab

  1. Restrict play count to 1

  2. Auto play when question is displayed

  3. Disable progression until audio/video is played

Media controls

  1. Here you just need to disable playback controls
