Generating accounts

How to generate user accounts and passwords through reporting.synap.ac
Content can only be assigned to existing users. There may be instances you don't want to wait for users to accept an invite before setting content to an account. For example running exams you may want to pre generate accounts and passwords to be handed out to students via a proctoring solution or separately.

✋ Before you start

    Create the user group
  2. 2.
    Go to reporting.synap.ac and login with your admin account credentials
  3. 3.
    Find the group you are importing into

Generate accounts

On reporting.synap.ac within the correct user group, use Import users in the top right. There is a link to the CSV template or you can view it here.

email = required
attributes = Optional. If you have custom user attributes in your portal, you can add the ID of an attribute as a header in the CSV
password = If you want to give these users a known password, include a password column on the CSV, passwords must be at least 8 characters long, with at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter and one number. If not provided or left blank, a password will be generated for the user and provided to you by email.

When your CSV is ready, select it for upload, if there are any formatting errors you'll be told in the modal. Success full imports will be notified by email with a confirmation CSV including the new users ID, sign up date and group they have been added to, and confirmation of the initial password set

Considerations

If you generate accounts this way, users will not be notified by Synap that they have had an account created. You will need to email users their account details, or advise them to navigate to platform and reset their passwords
🚨 Remember users can change their passwords at any time, so your record for a users initial password may not always be their actual password!
