Synoptic has been developed as Synap's solution to light proctoring. It does not require strong internet connections and users only need to install a Chrome plugin. You can customise the conditions / rules of an exam to decide what you will allow users to do and not do. Any violation of these rules by a user will be recorded and flagged as a breach.
Check out the video below for a student sitting a Synoptic exam
There are two options for Synoptic: No Replay, Replay Enabled (with optional interval captures), the cost of each exam with depends what plan and payment type you're on. For each Synoptic exam there is no strict time limit, so you won't be charged an additional seat if your exam is over a certain amount of hours.
Synoptic on Monthly Plans
Synoptic on Pay as you go (PAYG) credits
For additional charges you'll only be charged for attempts that were started, so you won't be charged if you set an exam up and a candidate doesn't attend. You'll be automatically billed at the end of the month.
In order to sit a Synoptic proctored exam your candidates will need:
To be on Google Chrome - this will not work with other browsers
To be able to download and install a plugin
To be on a laptop or desktop - this will not work with a tablet or mobile device
The following exam conditions / rules can be enabled or disabled on a Synoptic exam. Any violation of the conditions you set will be flagged as a breach
Exam window must be in fullscreen and focused
No external displays
No additional tabs
You can enable a penalty for a breach of the conditions, where the candidates exam is frozen but the timer continues to tick down.
Penalty (Optional):
Enable exam freeze on breach
Breaches, and resolutions are recorded and shown to the admins. When replay is enabled available to admins or educators can review screen recreation footage to see exactly what the user was doing and which question they were on when they breached the conditions.
Monitor candidates through interval captures of their entire desktop and through their webcam. Captures are taken at 5-8 second intervals through out the exam and viable through the proctor review after an exam has ended.
